Tineke De Meyer

Tineke (MA literature) is a Belgian writer and maker.

From her background as a writer, Tineke is driven by the limitations of language and interested in the intimacy and proximity of audio and spoken word. Rather than sharing a clear cut story, she aims to invite readers/listeners to experience something in their own bodies.
Her writing has associative structures, and walks the line between poetry, memoir and short story. Connecting the poetic and the everyday, what we see and what we miss, observations and misinterpretations, ancient stories and popular science, melancholy and humor.
The recently released album ‘The House Was Alright’ (2020) is a collection of spoken word pieces, in a dialogue with and moved by sound and music by Duncan Speakman.

Exploring the space where a (heard) story exists, between language and audio, and
how we relate to and are present in our environment, are recurring themes.
She also wrote texts that play between book and audio (‘Six Conversations’, 2016)
and for performative sound pieces looking for connection
and subtile interaction with and amongst listeners (like in ‘Conversation 7’, 2017).
Both of those pieces were made in collaboration with Duncan Speakman.

Vanuit haar achtergrond als schrijver is ze geïnteresseerd in de intimiteit en nabijheid van audio
en gesproken woord.
Haar schrijven heeft associatieve structuren, bewandelt de grens tussen gedicht, essay en kortverhaal.
Die associaties verbinden het poëtische en het alledaagse, wat we zien en niet zien,
feiten en bedenkingen, oude verhalen en populaire wetenschap, melancholie en humor.
Audioverhalen (zoals verzameld op ‘The House Was Alright’, 2020, i.s.m. Duncan Speakman)
waarin een stem een toehoorder zoekt, in dialoog met en gedragen door geluid en muziek.

Het verkennen van de ruimte waar een (beluisterd) verhaal zich afspeelt, tussen taal en audio,
en hoe we ons verhouden tot en aanwezig zijn in onze omgeving, zijn terugkerende thema’s.
Ze schrijft ook teksten tussen boek en audio (‘Six Conversations’ 2016) en voor performatieve audio-ervaringen, die zoeken naar verbinding en interactie met de luisteraar en tussen luisteraars onderling (zoals in ‘Conversation 7’, 2017).
Voor beide stukken werkte ze samen met Duncan Speakman.
